The Big Butterfly Count 2017

The Big Butterfly Count is taking place from Friday 14th July to Sunday 6th August and the site is now live.Everything you need to know can be found on the website. Don’t forget to download the Northern Ireland ID chart.This is a great way to get your eye into butterfly identification and recording and can really help us understand how butterflies are faring across the country… and it’s fun too! Drumcroon Road Verge near Garvagh

The Don’t Mow Let It Grow project team and volunteers are once more deeply saddened by the destruction of another of the projects stunning verges near Garvagh.This verge has been successfully managed since 2013 in consultation with the local community for its amazing array of wildflowers and insects which has improved year on year.An unknown individual in a blue tractor cut 3 large swaths in the middle of this verge at lunchtime on the 11th July, ignoring the project ‘Do Not Cut’ signs. BREAKING NEWS! Rare Bee Orchid Discovered

Causeway Coast and Glens Biodiversity Officer Rachel Bain and project leader for Don’t Mow, Let It Grow is thrilled to have discovered a Bee Orchid, which is a protected plant under Schedule 8 of the Wildlife (NI) Order 1985, on one of the projects’ sites.“It is amazing to see that the project is truly making a difference, that rare wildflowers not seen in this area for quite some time are beginning to come back again.  It demonstrates the huge positive impact of allowing important biodiversity projects such as Don’t Mow, Let It Grow to continue to work to protect our native plants and … [Read more...] about BREAKING NEWS!
